Let’s face it, winters in the beautiful pacific northwest can get ugly. Rain and snow can wreak havoc on your beautiful well-maintained vehicles. Don’t let winter ruin your baby! Store your car at Ridgefield Mini Storage over the fall and winter when the weather takes a turn.
Here are some helpful hints and tips on how to store your car correctly.
- Wash and wax your car inside out. If you are planning on covering your car in storage this is especially important. A clean and waxed car is less likely to get scratches when taking the cover on and off.
- Change the oil and check all fluids. Before you store your car have the car fully serviced.
- Take out all personal items before you store your car.
- Check your car for any places pesky pesks can get in. Consider putting a plastic bag over the air intake and exhaust pipes, securing them with a rubber band.
- Disconnect and remove the battery from the car. Storing a battery on a concrete floor or any where it will freeze will drain the batter.
- To help the longevity of the suspension, put the car on jack stands. This will also help the tires.
- Make sure any items that can freeze or rupture from the cold are taken out of the car.
- Most vermin do not like scents. Consider placing scented dryer sheets in the trunk, on tops of tires and in the passenger compartment of the car. Peppermint oil works well also. Bonus, your car will smell nice and fresh when removing it from storage!
- Keep your car insured. Don’t forget to tell your insurance company where the car will be stored. Many insurance companies require you to notify them when the address changes.
